IAU Global Survey shows the growing importance of the internationalisation of HEIs

The importance of internationalisation of higher education is high and increasing around the globe, according to the 6^th IAU Global Survey on the Internationalisation of Higher Education published on 02/04/2024 and probing 722 HEIs from 110 countries across the world. The study was conducted between January and June 2023. 

"The level of importance of internationalisation is high at the majority of HEIs (77%) and it has increased over the last five years across all types of HEIs", notes the report, quoting the “increased need to strategically connect with other HEIs globally” as the main driver for this growing trend.

"Europe stands out as the most important region for internationalisation, with 75% of respondents considering it very important."

Institutions are also noticeably elaborating strategies to attract more international students.

"Europe has the highest percentage of HEIs indicating the presence of a policy or strategy (85%) for internationalisation.
