"The biggest challenge institutions face in effectively integrating AI is the lack of clear policy. It is understandable because technology is rapidly changing so government regulations are sometimes vague", declares Claudio Colaiacomo, Vice President of Global Academic Relations at Elsevier BV, in an interview with News Tank on 30/01/20. He comes back on the Elsevier report titled ‘Insights 2024: Attitude towards AI’, released in the summer of 2024 and which required several months to survey recipients from across the globe. If the implementation of AI is not universal yet, "the opportunities are endless, but many of them are not clear yet", according to Claudio Colaiacomo. "Accelerating research productivity and discovery is perhaps the most important one because AI can take up complex and lengthy tasks. Its ability to explore a vast corpus or library of data and content and identify specific information is a game changer." It also entails opportunities in the educational and administrative areas, although ethical questions remain when used to handle data or participate in research. "While the European University initiative is only five years old, it is progressing well. But there is still much to do. "Employers' priorities for recruitment have seen a slight decline in graduate skills, which are fairly dependent on the economic climate. On the other hand, work expertise is on the rise when there is tension in the labour market. Thirdly, there is a digital mindset", says Sandrine Belloc, founder and CEO of Emerging, in an interview with News Tank on 29/10/2024 ahead of the Global Employability University Ranking and Survey (Geurs) 2025, published on 14/11/2024 by the Times Higher Education and conducted by the polling institute Trendence. MIT, Caltech and Stanford University, three American institutions, are toping the Global Employability University Ranking and Survey (Geurs) 2025, published on 14/11/2024 by the Times Higher Education, commissioned by Emerging and conducted by the polling institute Trendence. The University of Cambridge (5th) and the University of Oxford (7th), from the UK, are the first European institutions to appear in the ranking of 250 global HEIs, which counts 102 European universities in total. Following closely are two Asian entries: The University of Tokyo (Japan) and the National University of Singapore. "The top 10 is starting to be challenged. It used to be unchanging, with English and American universities at the top and no new entrants", indicates Sandrine Belloc, founder and CEO of Emerging, in an interview to News Tank. "Our model has led to unprecedented success over 35 years, with no member country ever missing a payment. We've created a niche for those who truly want to showcase their talent without limitations", states Pavel Kabat Secretary-General of the HFSPO (International Human Frontier Science Program Organisation), in an interview with News Tank on 18/07/2024. The Human Frontier Science Program was founded in 1989 to advance international research and training at the frontier of the life sciences. It is supported by 16-member countries and by the European Commission representing 24 additional countries. They "pool their contributions into a single fund without conditions. This allows the organisation to fund the best science without political or geopolitical influence, focusing solely on scientific excellence", indicates Pavel Kabet. "Of our approximately $60 M budget, more than 90% goes directly to supporting research sites", says Guntram Bauer, Chief scientific officer of HFSPO. "The grant program has a total success rate of about 4.5%, and the fellowship programme is around 10%. This shows how competitive our programmes are." "By combining AI’s strengths with human insight, we can create more effective, innovative, and inclusive educational environments, preparing students for an AI-augmented future. Early adopters of AI in their pedagogy will enable their students to gain a competitive edge and to have a better understanding of today's and tomorrow's world", writes Anthony Hié, chief innovation and digital officer at Excelia business school (France) on 08/07/2024, in an analysis for News Tank. He is exploring the question of the synergy between humans and artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education: "AI's ability to process vast amounts of data complements fundamental aspects of human cognition and behaviour, enhancing our capabilities. "Far-right populism often brings scepticism towards the EU and international collaboration. We must mitigate these negative directions, whether it is around EU scepticism or broader reluctance towards international cooperation. "Université PSL (Paris Sciences & Lettres, France) and Rice University (U.S.) have great strategic complementary research areas, and we announced that we will collaborate in four of them. The research we do aim to solve challenges that cities like Paris and Houston face", says Reginald DesRoches, President of Rice University to News Tank on 23/05/2024. Employability, academic subjects, executive MBA, Masters in management, impact of publications... All of these criteria were the objects of rankings since 06/2024, in addition to several rankings of global and European universities. The series started with the Leiden 2024 ranking of the most impactful universities in the research field, in which American and Chinese universities arrived on top. In Europe, British universities took the lead. In the QS Executive MBA Ranking 2024, European institutions dominate over American and Asian ones, with the UK being first but France being the most represented European. The US returned to their top 1 position in the Shanghai ranking 2024, with 114 universities over the 500 listed, followed by China with 93.
