Horizon Europe 2024 budget: +€1.4bn of previously unallocated funds, including €648m for missions

The 2024 budget for Horizon Europe's main work programme reaches €7.3bn, compared with the €5.9 billion initially voted, announces the European Commission on 17/04/2024. This €1.4bn increase is provided for by a budget amendment modifying Horizon Europe's 2023-24 work programme by mobilising previously unallocated funds.

The budget amendment adopted on 17/04 includes in particular:
• a €648m investment in R&I activities that underpin the EU's 'missions' of solving societal problems;
• €17.8m allocated to preparing the ground for the implementation of the 'New European Bauhaus';
• a series of new experimental actions designed to strengthen the openness of the programme and support the objectives of the EU's missions;
• €48m for the European collaborative cloud for cultural heritage;
• €50m for a European partnership for pandemic preparedness.

"Calls for 2025 are also included to ensure the continuity of certain recurring actions, such as the MSCA actions."

This announcement comes as Horizon Europe's multiannual budget (€95.5bn over 2021-2027) was cut by €2.1bn, when the EU's 2021-2027…
