University of Milan: Marina Brambilla, first woman to serve as rector

Marina Brambilla, professor of German linguistics, is elected as the new rector of the University of Milan (Italy) on 18/04/2024, after a vote where she obtained 1,652 ballots (65% of the total) against 645 (25% of the total) for the other candidate, Luca Solari, and 265 (10% of the total) blank ballots.

Marina Brambilla will take office on 01/09/2024 and lead the Milanese university (which is part of the 4EU+ Alliance) until 2030.

After studying Foreign language and literature at IULM University (Milan, Italy) and doing a doctorate in German language and literature at the University of Pavia (Italy), Marina Brambilla joined the University of Milan where she has been a professor for the past 20 years.

She has been vice-rector for Planning and organisation of services for teaching, students and staff since 2018. She presides over the Centre for study and professional orientation, the Centre for teaching innovation and multimedia technologies and the University language centre.
