EU extended participation in the Mediterranean R&I Partnership, until 2027 with + €105 M

The extension of the European Union's participation until 2027 in the Prima (European Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area) under Horizon Europe was confirmed on 19/04/2024 by the publication of the decision of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU in the official journal of the EU.

Prima is a research and innovation initiative launched as part of the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation programme. It aims to encourage cooperation between the countries of the European Union and non-EU Mediterranean countries to address common challenges related to water management, food security and environmental sustainability. All this with a budget of €494 M, of which €220 M comes from Horizon 2020 and €274 M from the participating states.

The Council of the European Union and the Parliament reached a provisional agreement on the continuation of the EU's participation in Prima for the period 2025-2027 on 13/12/2023.
