"The European Commission and the Singaporean government have begun exploratory discussions with a view to Singapore's possible association to Horizon Europe, the EU's research and innovation programme", states the European Commission on 23/04/2024.

Iliana Ivanova, the European commissioner for research, innovation, education, youth, culture and sport, met Tan Chorh Chuan, permanent secretary of the Singapore national research foundation, on the sidelines of the OECD ministerial meeting on science and technology policy in Paris on the same day.

At the end of this exchange, she says: "The EU is looking to build alliances with the global leaders who are strong in research and innovation and share our values and priorities. This is why I warmly welcome Singapore’s interest in a possible association to Horizon Europe".

The two parties will now enter technical discussions to examine the main aspects and principles of a possible association agreement before deciding whether or not to launch formal negotiations.
