Association of ERC Grantees: "Defending fundamental research is an urgent societal challenge"

"Defending fundamental research is an urgent societal challenge", declares Axel Cleeremans, president of the AERG (Association of ERC Grantees), in front of an assembly of stakeholders from the scientific research community and ERC laureates, on 03/05/2024.

To do so, the association plans on strengthening its relationship with universities and institutions (notably the ERC) and getting more members, because "the more we are, the louder our voice can be".

Among its many projects for the future, the AERG wants to nominate national representatives to "recruit potential members and identify particular national issues and bring them to the attention of the board, interact with NCP and local actors to promote AERG’s values and agenda".

Axel Cleeremans introduces the Association of ERC Grantees as "a small association trying to get big" during a conference on the European funding of life sciences organised by the Institut Necker Enfants Malades, the AERG, the French Minister of Higher Education and Research and the National Academy of Medicine, in Paris (France).
