European elections: 28 European science academies address the candidates

"The 28 presidents of the national science academies of the EU Member States felt the need to send a message to the candidates in the European Parliament elections, because research and education are facing various threats, such as the rise of the far right and the war of aggression in Ukraine", Alain Fischer, president of the Académie des sciences-Institut de France, told News Tank on 06/05/2024.

On the same day, the 28 national science academies of the EU Member States met in Brussels and issued a declaration to the candidates for the European Parliament, whose members will be elected from 06 to 09/06.

It calls for:
• "Strengthen the European Union's leadership in science and innovation",
• "promote strong, open and free scientific research",
• "invest in science and education",
• "and use scientific knowledge in policy-making".
