The Rector's Conference of Spanish Universities (Crue) will suspend ties with all Israeli institutions not expressing a commitment to peace regarding the war in Gaza, it says on 09/05/2024.

The association expresses its "deep regret at the extremely serious events currently taking place in the Gaza Strip". The Israeli army has been striking the small enclave in the West of Palestine since 07/10/2023, in response to a terrorist attack led by Hamas.

On 08/05/2024, 36,000 people have been reported as killed in the Israel-Hamas war (34,844 Palestinians and 1,410 Israelis), including 97 journalists and over 224 humanitarian aid workers, according to the UN.

Crue reaffirms its "permanent commitment to peace, coexistence and justice and to the defence of international humanitarian law", while backing up the students protesting in several universities across the country.

"We endorse the feelings of our campuses and the demands being made by them for measures to be adopted at different levels to put a stop to the escalation of violence that is taking place."
