J. Arthuis' call to MEPs: "Apprentices are still confined to too few and too short mobilities"

"Apprentices are still confined to mobilities that are too few and too short. In addition to the development of young people, the competitiveness and sovereignty of a Europe that is set to lose 8 M workers by the end of the 2024-2029 mandate are at stake", points out Jean Arthuis, President of EAM (the Euro App Mobility association) and former French minister, to the heads of the lists of candidates for the European election in the various EU countries on 14/05/2023.

At a time when European ministers adopt new mobility targets for 2030 on 15/05, and set the target for apprentices at 12%, he "reminds that Erasmus is also for apprentices and underlines the urgent need to remove the final barriers that are holding back the mobility of vocational learners and delaying the advent of the European Apprenticeship Area".

"The international dimension of apprenticeships develops cross-disciplinary skills (self-confidence, agility, creativity, ability to work in a team, understanding of economic and social issues) and language skills", he writes.
