FP10 : German Fraunhofer calling for a €200 Bn R&I budget and dissolution of the EIT

"The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft welcomes and strongly supports the call for a ring-fenced R&I budget of €200 Bn for FP10", says the German research organisation on 13/05/2024 in a position paper on the future of the next European research Framework Programme (FP10).

The organisation is based in Munich and is composed of 76 research institutes spread throughout Germany.

"The ongoing polycrisis must not stop or delay research and innovation efforts to bring about the necessary transition to a sustainable and digital economy that will secure long-term value creation and industrial competitiveness in Europe."

Among its recommendations for the FP10, Fraunhofer calls for the dissolution of the EIT, "which has become overly complex and costly and fails to provide added value to Europe's innovation ecosystems, in contrast to the European Partnerships and the EIC".

The EIC, according to The Fraunhofer, "has fallen short of the expectations raised in its inception since it mainly merged old programme lines into a new administrative structure. To realise its full potential, the EIC must be modified…
