CWUR ranking 2024: American top three, notable progress for China and stable Europe led by the UK

The American universities (Harvard, MIT and Stanford) top the 2024 ranking from the CWUR (Centre for World University Rankings) for the third year in a row, while Europeans arrive in fourth place with the University of Cambridge (UK), according to the ranking published on 13/05/2024.

The U.S. is the most represented country in the ranking, with 329 universities, including eight in the top ten. Close behind is China, which has been steadily progressing since 2019, going from 249 universities ranked at the time to 324 in 2024, with an increase of ten entries from 2023 to 2024. The U.S. has on the contrary lost three entries from 2023 to 2024.

The University of Cambridge (UK) is the first European University to appear in the ranking, in 4^th. The United Kingdom is also the fourth country with the most universities ranked and the first European, with 92 entries.

Following right after the UK in the ranking of universities per country are France (5^th), losing three entries from 2023 (76 against 73), and Germany (6^th), stable with 69.
