EU: Nine Member States committed to funding 2 R&I Projects of common interest in health and hydrogen

The European Commission, which regulates government support to ensure fair competition, approved the funding by Member States of two "Important Projects of Common European Interest" (IPCEI) in health and hydrogen on 28/05/2024.

The first, "IPCEI Med4Cure," supports research, innovation, and initial industrial deployment of healthcare products and pharmaceutical production processes. It will receive up to €1 Bn in public funding provided by six Member States: Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, and Spain. "It is expected to attract €5.9 Bn in private investments", the Commission says.

IPCEI Med4Cure aims to enhance the EU health industry's resilience and accelerate medical advancements, particularly for rare diseases, by supporting comprehensive pharmaceutical R&D, sustainable production technologies, and advanced digital applications. The project expects to create around 6,000 jobs and be completed by 2036.
