QS ranking 2025: U.S. and U.K share first places and dominate ranking; Cambridge loses four ranks

American and British universities are sharing the first six ranks of the QS ranking of world universities for 2025, published by QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), on 04/06/2024.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (U.S.), topping the ranking for the 13^th year in a row, is followed by two British universities: the Imperial College London (2^nd, up from 6^th in 2024) and the University of Oxford (third, stable since 2024).

Harvard stays in fourth while the University of Cambridge falls from second in 2024 to fifth in 2025. QS notes that Caltech (U.S.) is the only university to break into the world’s top 10 in 2024.

"This year’s world university rankings feature 1,500 universities across 106 higher education systems. The United States is the most represented country, with 197 ranked institutions, followed by the United Kingdom with 90 and China with 71", says QS.
