The European Commission has announced that 14 new alliances, bringing together 130 higher education institutions, will each receive support of €14.4 M for four years to set up their European University Alliance, on 28/06/2024.

This is the fifth and final call for applications for European universities. The European Commission has thus exceeded its initial target of 60 European university alliances by mid-2024, with a total of 64.

News Tank learns from the Commission that 56 applications were submitted for this call for proposals.

Germany is the country with the highest number of higher education establishments registered in the new alliances (15), followed by France (13) and Spain (11).

In February, the European Commission introduced the "Community of Practice for European University Alliances" initiative, dedicating €1.8 M to enhance peer learning among existing European university alliances. The winning project, ForEU4All, involves in particular a consortium of 17 member alliances.
