The challenge of implementing research assessment in Europe (EUA-CDE annual meeting)

"Since its creation in 2022, Coara has aimed to reform research assessment in Europe through its core commitments to guide its implementation in different countries", says Pastora Martinez Samper, Commissioner for International Action at the Open University of Catalonia (Spain) and co-chair of the EUA Expert Group on Open Science, while discussing the subject of research assessment at the EUA-CDE annual meeting in Barcelona (Spain) on 27/06/2024.

However, a common set of procedures to measure the performance and quality of scientific research processes is not easily implemented at national level, as explained by Bjorn Stensaker, Vice-Rector for Education at the University of Oslo (Norway).

While he points out positive drivers, the implementation of the ARA and national assessment matrices in Norway faces some challenges, mainly the "existing norms and traditions" and the risk coming with being a frontrunner in the field.
