“Research can only pursue its diverse tasks successfully if it is left to do so freely", says the President of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation), Professor Katja Becker, during the DFG annual meeting taking place in Potsdam (Germany) on 03/07/2024.

Among the key topics at the meeting were European research funding and policy, issues of research assessment in the national and European context, a new operating and financing structure for German research vessels and the approval of new Research Units and other funding projects.

"In addition to the meetings of the statutory bodies, events involving guests from research, politics and society were once again held as part of the DFG annual meeting in Potsdam, notably a panel discussion involving the heads of European research funding and science organisations from Poland, the UK and Germany", reports the DFG.

The DFG funded 31,750 projects from all scientific disciplines in 2023 with a total of around €3.9 Bn. Its annual meeting saw the presentation of the final report of the DFG's Interdisciplinary…
