French National Agency for Research: Claire Giry appointed president; Marc Schiltz among candidates

Claire Giry, Director General of Research and Innovation at the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, is appointed president of the ANR (French National Agency for Research) as of 11/09/2024, according to a decree published in the Journal Officiel (Official Journal of the French Republic that publishes major legal information) on 09/07/2024.

Three candidates were in the running to succeed Thierry Damerval, who was unable to run after two terms at the head of the agency: Jean-Luc Moullet, Deputy Director General for Innovation at the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research, the French state research organisation and the largest fundamental science agency in Europe), and Marc Schiltz, former Secretary General of the National Research Fund in Luxembourg.

Claire Giry holds a doctorate in molecular and cellular biology and held multiple positions at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), including Adviser for Communications and International Relations until 2002 and Deputy Director of Fundamental Research from the beginning of 2016…
