European Parliament: Nela Riehl and Borys Budka, elected chairs of Cult and Itre committee bureau

Nela Riehl, a German MEP from the Greens/EFA (European Free Alliance) party, and Borys Budka, a Polish MEP from the EPP (European People's Party), are elected chairmen of the European Parliament's Cult and Itre committees respectively, on 23/07/2024.

They are each accompanied by four vice-chairmen to form the committee bureau. The Bureau is elected for a two-and-a-half-year term.

Committees deal with legislative proposals, appoint negotiating teams for talks with EU ministers, adopt reports, organise hearings and monitor other EU bodies and institutions.

Nela Riehl is a former secondary school teacher and study advisor in Hamburg School Board.

Borys Budka holds a PhD in economics from the University of Economics in Katowice, is an academic teacher at the same university. He is also vice-president of the Polish liberal-conservative party Platforma Obywatelska.
