European Union: guidelines, challenges and objectives for the next five years

Between 06 and 09/06/2024, Europeans went to the polls to form the European Union for the next five years. They elected the MEPs by whom they wished to be represented in the Parliament, who in turn elected Roberta Metsola as head of the European Parliament and Ursula von der Leyen as head of the Commission.

Prior to the European elections, stakeholders had already put forward recommendations for the next European Union.

The 28 presidents of the national science academies of the EU Member States sent a message to the candidates in the European Parliament elections due to growing concerns over threats to research and education, such as infringements of scientific integrity and academic freedom of investigation.

Cesaer hopes that discussions on cooperation will evolve positively in a context where the far right is gaining ground. According to Mattias Björnmalm, Cesaer' Secretary General, "research, education, and innovation should not be isolated. It should be on the agenda of the full College of Commissioners and be directly linked to what all the funding programmes do".
