Innovation Scoreboard: changes in the European Commission's index since 2015

Every year, the European Innovation Scoreboard provides a comparative analysis of innovation performance in EU countries, other European countries and regional neighbours. It is operated by the services of the European Commission.

News Tank has been compiling this data since 2015, enabling to observe changes in performance by country.

The scoreboard is built around 32 indicators grouped into 12 indices:
• human resources;
• attractive research systems;
• digitalisation;
• funding and support;
• business investment;
• innovators;
• relations;
• IP capital;
• impacts on employment;
• impacts on sales;
• use of ICT;
• since the 2021 edition, the 'Environmental Sustainability' index is also part of the evaluation criteria, tracking three indicators: resource productivity, fine particle air emissions, environment-related technologies.
