UKRI: "The breakthroughs from R&I are a crucial driver of long-term growth" (report 2023-2024)

"The breakthroughs from R&I are a crucial driver of long-term growth and play a foundational role in improving lives and helping to tackle societal challenges. UKRI has a duty as a smart investor to deliver value and to maximise the economic impact of every pound of public money entrusted to us", declares Sir Andrew Mackenzie, Chair of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), in the organisation's annual report published on 09/08/2024.

"The whole of the R&I system is going through a period of significant financial challenge and uncertainty and will need to make difficult decisions in the years ahead."

The British organisation, a public body sponsored by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), was founded in 2018. It is composed of nine councils, working across all disciplines and sectors to support "a dynamic investment portfolio with aligned incentives".
