U.S. presidential race 2024: K. Harris and D. Trump's plans for education, higher ed and research

"Democrats fundamentally believe that every student deserves a quality education, regardless of their parents’ zip code or income", states Kamala Harris's programme, released after the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on 20/08/2024 to showcase its candidate 2024-2028 policy agenda.

One of their main proposition is for children to attend public school before kindergarten by providing "free, universal preschool for four-year-olds, saving the families of five million children $13,000 a year". This idea is based on studies showing "that children who attend preschool are nearly 50% more likely to finish high school and go on to earn a two- or four-year degree, no matter their background".

On the other side, Republicans start their programme with 20 promises for the country, including "deport pro-Hamas radicals and make our college campuses safe and patriotic again" and " cut federal funding for any school pushing critical race theory, radical gender ideology, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content on our children".
