"The European Universities Initiative has given new impetus to the EHEA" (Stéphane Lauwick, Eqar)

"The European Universities Initiative has given new impetus to the European Higher Education Area. The package launched by the European Commission on the European Degree in March 2024 represents a major forward-looking and mapping exercise, which is of great interest to Eqar", Stéphane Lauwick, President of Eqar, the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education, tells News Tank on 20/08/2024.

Eqar is a register that assesses quality agencies' compliance with the ESGs, the European Quality Assurance Standards, and groups together those that meet them. It covers the European Higher Education Area, which extends beyond the boundaries of the European Union.

At the request of the EHEA ministers, Eqar was set up in 2008 by the E4 group, which brings together the EUA, the ESU (European Students' Union), Eurashe (European Association of Institutions in Higher Education) and Enqa (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education). It now has 55 members, mainly governments.
