Québec government setting up a committee of experts to guide the use of AI in higher education

A committee of experts has been set up to guide reflection and analysis on the pedagogical and ethical issues raised by the use of generative AI in higher education, announces the government of Québec on 13/08/2024. It was initiated by the Conseil supérieur de l'éducation (Superior Council of Education) and the Commission de l'éthique en science et en technologie (Commission on Ethics in Science and Technology), two Canadian entities of the French-speaking region of Québec.

This provincial consultation forum will include representatives from postsecondary institutions, student associations, unions, and AI experts.

The group is also tasked with helping to come up with strategic priorities for the use of AI and implement technology projects in universities and other post-secondary schools.

According to the Québec government, the goal is to "leverage artificial intelligence as a tool to promote academic success, while developing digital skills so students can appreciate the limits of these new technologies".
