Hungary: "The restrictions to EU funds mean isolation of the Hungarian scientific community"

"Hungarian early career researchers have realised that the restrictions to EU Funds will not only mean limited access to funding, but also the weakening of their research networks, the isolation of the Hungarian scientific community, and reduced training opportunities - all of which are seen as essential for maintaining competitiveness and high-quality research", states the Hungarian Young Academy, which aims to support young scientists and make their voices heard by decision-makers, on 30/07/2024.

The academy realises a research report on the impact of the ban of some Hungarian universities from EU funds, especially for young researchers. The study was conducted through a survey of doctorate holders aged 31-45.

In December 2022, the Council of the EU decided to suspend the transfer of funds from the Erasmus and Horizon programmes to public interest foundations established to manage 21 universities in Hungary.
