ETH Zurich : New supercomputer 'Alps' inaugurated at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre

ETH Zurich inaugurated the new 'Alps' supercomputer at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) in Lugano, Southern Switzerland, on 14/09/2024.

"Alps is one of the fastest computers in the world. It is the result of the combined efforts of science, the public sector and industry.

The new supercomputer was developed to meet science's extreme data and computing requirements and allows the possibilities of artificial intelligence to be fully utilised", says ETH Zurich.

"Alps is an expression of our vision of a future characterised by knowledge and progress," declares Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin at the inauguration.

ETH Vice President for Research Christian Wolfrum emphasises the long-term commitment of the Confederation and the ETH Domain, as well as the importance of the long-standing collaboration between CSCS and the industry sector.
