Commission: Ekaterina Zaharieva Commissioner for R&I and Roxana Mînzatu Executive VP for Education

Ekaterina Zaharieva, Chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Bulgarian Parliament, is appointed European Commissioner for Research and Innovation by Usurla von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, on 17/09/2024. Roxana Mînzatu, Romanian MEP and member of the Committee on Regional Development, is given the role of Executive Vice-President responsible for human resources, skills and preparation. Her responsibilities will include skills and education.

Both candidates must now appear before the parliamentary committees in their likely areas of activity and obtain the approval of the European Parliament before finally taking up their positions. Once the Parliament approves all the candidates, the new college can take office.
