"The European Research Area is about to celebrate its quarter-century, which is normally the age of full maturity, but it seems that the ERA is not ageing as fast as humans," says Marc Lemaître, European DGRI, at the ERA stakeholders' conference "Fostering greater integration. Advancing competitiveness" organised by the European Commission on 18/09/2024 in Brussels.

"So in 2020 we tried to reorganise it, to restart it. We have redoubled our efforts, and I think that two concrete things have emerged from this collective effort. Firstly, we have a roadmap: the ERA's political agenda, which we are currently reviewing for the next three years. And to talk about another form of governance, we have brought together all those who are part of the ERA and who form its core around a table to work together within the framework of the ERA Forum."

For the European DGRI, "a lot has been achieved", but "there is still a lot to be done to strengthen European R&I jointly throughout Europe. In this context, I would like to emphasise one word. What we need is to finally unleash the full breadth of…
