R&I: European careers observatory launched, first data series in early 2025

The funding agreement for the Observatory on careers in research and innovation, known as "ReICO", is signed by the European Commission and the OECD, with the support of the Horizon Europe programme, on 19/09/2024, on the occasion of the European Research Area stakeholder conference. The amount has not been announced. The first set of data is expected in the first half of 2025 and will be updated annually.

"A better understanding of people's career paths is essential for designing policies, improving their careers, while bringing economic benefits to the EU economy", says the Commission. In particular, information will be provided on the job insecurity, skills and mobility of researchers.

The creation of such an observatory was proposed in the conclusions of the Council of the European Union of 28/05/2021 on "Deepening the ERA: providing researchers with attractive and sustainable careers and working conditions and making brain circulation a reality".
