Researchers in danger: €12M for 60 research fellowships in a European Union country

"Supporting at-risk researchers from all over the world (outside the EU) by awarding 60 fellowships for a research stay in a European Union country". This is the aim of the Safe pilot project (Supporting at-risk researchers with fellowships in Europe), funded to the tune of €12 M by the European Union for three years and launched on 23/09/2024, announces Campus France, the agency for the promotion of French higher education abroad, member of the European consortium.

The project consortium includes three other partners, Daad (Germany), which is coordinating the project, Unimed (Italy) and the Pause programme (France), which supports scientists and artists in exile.

"Political and geopolitical crises are multiplying around the world, affecting academic freedom and threatening those who protect it. Today, 45.5% of the world's population, or 3.6 billion people, live in a country where academic freedom is totally restricted. Faced with this major problem, the Safe project aims to make the European Union a refuge for scientists in danger", states the consortium.
