"We’re in a situation where we’re squeezed by both sides: we don’t have the appropriate public spending, and industry in Europe is less and less spending money on R&D—and that is worrying", says Christian Ehler, German EPP MEP and former rapporteur for the Horizon Europe research programme, the 02/10/2024 at the event "Invest in the future! A call for increased investment in R&I in Europe", organised in Brussels by "Research Matters" campaign.

On this occasion, European leading R&I organisations and industry representatives point to "the urgent need for increased investment in R&D in Europe".

"This event offers a platform for discussing the vital importance of investing in research and innovation as a way of addressing current and future geopolitical and societal challenges (...) ahead of the publication of the first proposal for the multiannual financial framework, expected mid-2025", say the campaign partners.
