More universities expect public funding to decrease and European funding and income from business to increase in the next five years, according to the EUA survey titled “The state & future of university finances in Europe”, conducted by Enora Bennetot Pruvot, Deputy Director for Governance, Funding & Public Policy Development at the EUA.

The results of the survey are presented on 03/10/2024 at the opening session of the EUA Funding Forum, taking place in Helsinki (Finland) on 02 and 03/10/2024.

Asked about their expectations in terms of funding for the next five years, European universities foresee:
• Income from business increasing for almost 60% of universities (versus less than 50% for the past five years),
• European funding increasing for 60% of universities (versus more than 50% for the past five years).
• Core public funding increasing for almost 50% of universities and decreasing for almost 20% (versus increasing for almost 70% and decreasing for less than 10% in the past five years).

"We need to wait and see if it is wishful thinking or if it will indeed evolve in this way"…
