European degree: visions of European Universities alliances present at the EAIE 2024

"From Una Europa's perspective on the European degree, what we really need is more flexibility in national legislation to allow for the creation of joint transnational degrees. It’s about giving universities the ability to collaborate effectively", says Emily Palmer, Secretary General of Una Europa, to News Tank on 18/09/2024.

The European Association for International Education (EAIE) 2024 conference took place in Toulouse (France) from 17 to 20/09/2024. In the exhibition hall, the European Commission was represented by a stand and, around it, more than 20 European universities were also present. News Tank interviewed 6 of them.

While some alliances are unsure of the added value of a new European tool, others are counting on the regulation being adopted by 2025:

"The regulations are currently being developed. The European Commission told us they are working right now to streamline all the bureaucracy so that a student from anywhere can obtain a European degree. It must be ready because the programs Sea-EU is developing begin in September 2025", states Irene de Andrés…
