THE 2025 World University Ranking: University of Oxford tops the list for the ninth year running

In the top ranking of the 2025 edition of the Times Higher Education World University Ranking, published on 09/10/2024, only institutions located in the United Kingdom (3) and the United States (7) are represented. The WUR ranks 2092 universities in 115 countries or regions.

The University of Oxford tops the list for the ninth year running, a record. MIT ranks second (+1) and Harvard third (+1). Stanford, which was second in the 2024 ranking, has moved up to sixth.

China moves closer to breaking into the top 10 by strengthening its global research influence, while Australia's top five universities see a decline in rankings, driven by a drop in reputation and international outlook, indicates THE.

In the top 20 European establishments, the first non-UK European institution is ETH Zurich, in fourth place.
