The EU and Egypt launch formal talks on association to Horizon Europe, announces the European Commission on 10/10/2024.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Abdel Fattah El-Sissi, President of Egypt, signed a Joint Declaration on the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership in Cairo on 17/03/2024. This agreement has enabled Egypt to begin negotiations to join EU programmes such as Horizon Europe.

"The beginning of formal negotiations follows the conclusion of exploratory talks, which have been taking place over the past months", explains the Commission. Negotiations may continue for several weeks or months.

If successful, association with Horizon Europe would enable Egyptian entities to access funding and coordinate projects on equal footing with EU member states.
