European Parliament: Election of the Stoa Bureau, Christian Ehler chosen for a new mandate as Chair

Christian Ehler, German MEP from EPP and former rapporteur for Horizon Europe, is reelected as Chair of Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (Stoa) of the European Parliament on 24/10/2024. The panel also elected Lina Gálvez Muñoz (S&D, Spain) and Ivars Ijabs (Renew, Latvia) as first and second Vice-Chairs.

The Chair and two Vice-Chairs of Stoa are elected to serve a two-and-a-half-year term. Alongside the European Parliament Vice-President responsible for Stoa, Victor Negrescu (S&D, Romania), they make the Stoa Bureau.

Composed of 27 MEPs nominated by 11 European Parliament Committees, the Stoa panel conducts interdisciplinary research and provides science advice on technology assessment and scientific foresight. It performs studies, organises workshops, and hosts the European Science-Media Hub to foster networking among the European Parliament, the scientific community, and the media.
