British physicist Mark Thomson will be Cern's Director General for a five-year term starting on 01/01/2026, the Cern Council announces on 06/11/2024. His official appointment will take place at the December Council meeting. He will succeed Fabiola Gianotti, who has held this position since 01/01/2016 and was the first woman to head Cern.
