Torino (Italy) European Innovation Capital 2024 and Braga (Portugal) European Rising Innovative City

Torino wins the iCapital prize in the "European Capital of Innovation" category, followed by Espoo (Finland) and West Midlands Combined Authority (UK). Braga is the winner in the "European Rising Innovative City" category, followed by Linz (Austria) and Oulu (Finland), announces the European Commission on 13/11/2024.

Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, presents these awards at the Web Summit in Lisbon, the iCapital 2023 winner. It is also an opportunity for the Commission to celebrate a decade of recognising "cities that lead the way in delivering innovative solutions for their citizens".

Financed by Horizon Europe, Turin is awarded €1 M, while the two finalist cities of the same category each receive €100,000. Braga receives €500,000, while the two finalist cities each receive €50,000.

According to the Commission, "Torino showcases a comprehensive approach to experimentation and innovation, leveraging its rich history and industrial heritage to tackle present and future urban challenges.
