Italy: + €880 M for study grants in 2024/2025; + €187 M for 2,309 new beds in student residences

The Italian government is allocating €880 M for student grants for the 2024/2025 academic year, following approval by the State-Regions Conference on 07/11/2024. A ministerial decree of 30/10/2024 also allocates €187 M for 17 co-financed projects aimed at the creation of 2,309 new places in residence and university colleges, the Italian Ministry for University and Research announces. The State will co-finance up to 75% of the total cost.

"These are measures that are very much felt by universities and students, which facilitate the full exercise of the right to study," comments Giovanna Iannantuoni, president of the Crui, the conference of Italian rectors. "This not only contributes to real access to university life for deserving young people who come from less well-off families but also supports participation in attendance and residency as central factors for an integral education and human growth of young people".

The €880 M dedicated to grants comes from various funds:
