Belgian rector at Hungary's Corvinus University "brings fresh perspectives" (B. van Pottelsberghe)

"I’m the first non-Hungarian-speaking rector in the history of Hungary. Bringing in a foreign rector has its benefits: it brings fresh perspectives and helps the university adapt more quickly to international standards. It fosters connections and networking opportunities abroad", says Bruno van Pottelsberghe, rector and president of Corvinus University of Budapest since 01/08/2024, to News Tank on 18/11.

He shares the four main objectives of his appointment: internationalisation, both of the student body and faculty, the triple crown accreditation (receiving Amba, AACSB and Equis), and increasing research volume and quality.

Before, he was dean at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management, the Faculty of Economics and Management at Université libre de Bruxelles (Belgium). He notes the similarities and differences between the two systems, mentioning, in particular, academic freedom and funding and structural models.

The rector also looks at the impact of the funding no longer granted to Hungary by the European Commission for the Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programmes.
