Agreement on the 2025 EU budget: €3.97 Bn for Erasmus and €13.5 Bn for R&I (€12.76 Bn for Horizon)

Representatives of the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union in charge of the annual EU budget 2025 find an agreement on 16/11/2024, allocating €3.969 Bn to Erasmus + and €13.535 Bn for research and innovation, including €12.762 Bn for Horizon Europe.

Initially, the European Commission's draft budget for 2025 of 19/06/2024 proposed
€4 Bn for the Erasmus+ programme (-0,77%), while allocating €13.511 Bn for research and innovation (+ 0,17%), including €12.737 Bn for Horizon Europe (+0,19%). As a result, certain instruments in this programme will benefit from additional funding in 2025: Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (+€2.5 M), Cluster ‘Health’ (+€15 M) and the European Innovation Council (+€7.5 M).

The EU Council's proposal on 13/09/2024 cut almost €295 M from the Erasmus budget and €450 M from EU R&I, with €400 M hitting the budget for Horizon Europe. The Parliament, for its part, opposed these proposals:
