Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers 2024 list: U.S. domination on the decline and China ascending

The U.S. is home to the most highly cited researchers (2,507), followed closely by Mainland China (1,405), which is gaining grounds in the world share (20.4 %), while the American share is steadily declining (36.4 %), according to the 2024 list of highly cited researchers published by Clarivate Plc on 19/11/2024.

The Europeans among the ten countries with the most highly cited researchers are the UK (3^rd), Germany (4^th), the Netherlands (7^th) and France (9^th).

The first institution home to the most highly cited researchers is the Chinese Academy of Sciences, followed by Harvard and Stanford (U.S.). The only European institution featured in the top 10 is the Max Planck Society (Germany).
