EU college confirmed by MEPs, Roxana Minzatu's portfolio title changed

The MEPs consider Stéphane Séjourné, Henna Virkkunen, Roxana Minzatu and Ekaterina Zaharieva to be "qualified" to carry out their duties in the College of the European Commission 2024-2029 after their auditions, according to the evaluation letters published on 27/11/2024.

Following the vote at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 27/11/2024, which approved the college with 370 MEPs voted in favour, 282 against, and 36 abstained the Commission will be formally appointed by the European Council, which acts by a qualified majority. Once appointed, the term of the new European Commission should start on 01/12/2024.

However, MEPs have reservations about the current title of Roxana Minzatu's portfolio. Empl (Employment and Social Affairs) and Cult (Culture and Education) Committees request the change from "People, Skills and Preparedness" to "Quality Jobs, Social Rights, Education, Skills and Preparedness".

The Commission has made changes to the title of the portfolio, which does not include the word "education": "Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs, and Preparedness".
