Knowledge valorisation: "Research results not fully exploited for the benefit of society" (M. Russo)

"The EU finances a lot of research, and there is a lot of ongoing activity. However, in all the important reports published this year — Letta, Draghi, and Heitor's — it is consistently stated that the results of research are not fully exploited for the benefit of society. Today's discussion is focused on knowledge valorisation and its aim of bringing the results of research closer to society", states Maria Cristina Russo, Director for Prosperity at DG RTD of the European Commission, on 10/12/2024.

She is speaking at the European Commission's annual Knowledge Valorisation event entitled "Driving EU Prosperity: The Future of Knowledge Valorisation".

In December 2022, the EU Council adopted guiding principles for knowledge valorisation, prompting the European Commission to develop four codes of practice on collaboration, citizen engagement, intellectual asset management and standardisation.
