Switzerland: Triple tuition fees for foreign students at ETH Domain; capping of new students at EPFL

The ETH Board decides to triple tuition fees for foreign students for the 2025 autumn semester. However, under a transitional provision, students who have already enrolled will be able to complete their studies without paying triple the tuition fees, says the Board after its meeting on 04 and 05/12/2024.

The Board also indicates that tuition fees will be adjusted in line with the National Consumer Price Index every four years, to ensure they take inflation into account. They are currently 730 CHF per semester (€ 778.72).

EPFL, which is part of the ETH Domain, also receives approval from the ETH Board to cap the number of first-year bachelor’s students at 3,000, but Swiss nationals and holders of Swiss diplomas will continue to be admitted without restrictions.

These decisions are taken to "maintain high-quality education" while the ETH Domain is facing reduced funding for the years to come.
