Universiteit Utrecht (Netherlands): Wilco Hazeleger appointed new Rector

Wilco Hazeleger, Professor of Climate System Science and currently Dean of the Faculty of Geosciences at Universiteit Utrecht (UU) will be the new Rector Magnificus of UU on 27/03/2024. He will take the position after Henk Kummeling, the current Rector of the Dutch university, for four years.

“As a climate scientist, I know how important it is to connect society with scientific research and education. UU is based on strong strategic themes in sustainability, open society, youth and health.

We do research and educate students with a strong foundation and a broad outlook. I look forward to shaping the connections with society even further, with the other members of the Executive Board and the broad university community", declares Wilco Hazeleger.

"He is an experienced and collegial administrator with a big heart for the broad UU community in all its diversity. (...) We are pleased that Wilco is willing to take on this honourable and important role", states Karin Laglas, chair of the Supervisory Board of UU.
