Initiative for Science in Europe: Moniek Tromp (University of Groningen), President as of 01/01/2025

Moniek Tromp, Director of the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials and Chair of Materials Chemistry at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands) will take office as the new President of Initiative for Science in Europe on 01/01/2025, announces ISE on 20/12/2024.

She was elected by the ISE General Assembly on 26/04/2024. She succeeds Martin Andler, who was elected President on 24/03/2017.

Moniek Tromp specialises in operando spectroscopy, particularly X-ray techniques, for catalysis and materials research, advancing understanding of properties and mechanisms in areas like batteries and photochemistry.

She has held roles in national and international science policy, including leadership positions in the Dutch Network for Female Professors (LNVH), Young Academy Europe (YAE) [member of ISE], and Science Advice for Policy by European Academies.
