"The six Erasmus+ pilot projects piloting the criteria for a European degree label have advanced the conceptualisation and potential implementation of a European degree, emphasising its role in promoting deeper integration within the EEA and boosting the competitiveness and appeal of Europe’s higher education system", states a report from the European Commission published on 19/12/2024.

The recommendations point to the need for:
• "Cohesive action from multiple stakeholders, including HEIs, accreditation bodies, and EU member states.
• Clearer guidelines, streamlined processes and more substantial support structures to overcome the existing barriers.
• Ongoing dialogue, collaborative policy development, the provision of resources necessary to support the implementation of the European degree and the definition of a clear roadmap."

The four projects focused on institutionalised cooperation instruments found that university alliances "face major obstacles regarding their current legal status or the absence of one, and none of the existing institutionalised cooperation instruments…
