Joint European Disruptive Initiative: "Motionless bureaucracy leads to waste of common resources"

"2024 was a year where the vision of technology leadership, foresight and sovereignty developed by Jedi has proven right, since technology and anticipation are critical in competitiveness, security, and overall resilience of our societies", can we read in the 2025 Letter from the Board of the Joint European Disruptive Initiative (Jedi), published on 31/12/2024 by Andre Loesekrug-Pietri, Chairman & Scientific Director at Jedi.

According to the letter, the main bottleneck is "a slow and motionless bureaucracy in member states and at EU level that has a very hard time simplifying its processes and entrusting civil-society actors with managing part of its R&D budget to try other methods than the inefficient calls for proposals".

"This leads to a massive ‘waste of our common resources’ as stressed by the Draghi Report where the Joint European Disruptive Initiative is cited as a promising way forward."

Jedi lists its ambitions for 2025, focusing on competitiveness, implementing the recommendations of the recent reports (Draghi's, Letta's and Heitor's) and becoming a political force.
